SHORT TERM PROTECTION FOR TURBOMACHINERY

AND RELATED EQUIPTMENT

1.         GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

1.1     PROTECTION SHALL BE SUITABLE FOR 6 MONTHS OF OUTDOOR STORAGE FROM THE TIME OF SHIPMENT.

1.2     IF STORAGE FOR A LONGER PERIOD IS CONTEMPLATED, REFER TO ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION N5S-7801-01 WHICH ADDRESSES LONG TERM STORAGE.

1.3     SPARE PARTS (INCLUDING ROTORS) SHALL BE PROTECTED IN ACCORDANDCE WITH ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION 5NS-7801-01 WHICH ADDRESS FIELD HANDLING.

1.4     EQUIPTMENT SHALL BE SUITEABLY PREPARED FOR RIGOROUS SHIPPING AND FIELD HANDLING.

1.5     ALL PRESERVATION SHALL USE CORROSION PROTECTION PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED BY THE CORTEC CORPORATION WHICH ARE;

                      1.5.1 VCI-329 ADDITIVE CONCENTRATE FOR OILS

1.5.2 VCI-309 POWDER FOR FERROUS METALS (NOTE: POWDER IS

 WATER-SOLUBLE AND CAN CAUSE OIL FILTERS TO PLUG       AND POSSIBLE ABRASION OF BEARINGS.)

          1.5.3 VCI-368 LIQUID FOR OUTDOOR PROTECTION

2.         EXPOSED MACHINE SURFACES

2.1       ALL EXPOSED MACHINED SURFACES, INCLUDING SHAFTS AND COUPLINGS, SHALL BE COATED WITH VCI-368.

2.2       DRY FILM THICKNESS OF VCI-368 SHALL BE 3 MILS.  AFTER APPLICATION, THE VCI-368 SHALL BE ALLOWED TO DRY BEFORE HANDLING.

2.3       APPLY TWO LAYERS OF BARRIER MATERIAL OVER THE CORTEC VCI-368 COATED SHAFTS WHERE THEY EMERGE FROM THE MACHINE HOUSEING AND TAPW OVER THE BARRIER MATERIAL WITH DUCT TAPE TO MAKE THE UNIT VAPOR TIGHT.

3.         BEARING HOUSINGS, GEAR BOXES, OIL RESERVOIRS, AND MACHINERY INTERNALS

3.1       REMOVE ALL BREATHER FITTINGS ON BEARING HOUSINGS, GEARBOXES, AND OIL RESEROIRS AND COVER WITH BLINDS OR PLUGS.  AL FLANGE OPENINGS SHALL BE FITTED EITH RIGID BLIND FLANGES AND BOLTED IN PLACE WITH 1/8” RED RUBBER GASKETS.  COAT FLANGE FACES WITH VCI-368.

3.2       FOR ANY RUNNING TESTS, USE THE APPROPRIATE LUBRICANT CONTAINING 10% (BY VOLUME) OF CORTEC VCI-329 AND THEN DRAIN THE EQUIPTMENT.

3.3       IF UNIT CAN NOT BE RUN TESTED, SPRAY OR FOG CORTEC VCI-329 INTO THE MACHINE AS THE ROTOR IS ROTATED SLOWLY USING 30CC PER GALLON OF INTERIOR VOLUME.

4.         LOOSE COMPONENTS

4.1       LOOSE COMPONENTS SHALL BE PACKAGED IN WATERPROOF BOXES OR CRATES.  BOXES (INCLUDING LIDS) SHALL BE LINED WITH WAXED PAPER BARRIER PAPER STAPLED IN PLACE.

4.2       BOXES SHALL HAVE LIDS FST4NED WITH SCRES FOR EASY REMOVAL FOR INSPECTION.

4.3       INTRODUCE CORTEC VCI-309 POWDER IN THE BOX AT THE RATE OF 20 GMS/CUBIC FOOT OF VOLUME.
