Evaluation of Tyco Stretch Film for Corrosion Inhibitor Protection
Background: James Gaynor/Buff-Pac has interest in the corrosion inhibitor protection offered by Tyco stretch film.
Purpose: Evaluate the contact and barrier corrosion inhibitor protection offered by Tyco stretch film.
Method: SO2 Test
Razor Blade Test
FT-IR Spectroscopy
Sodium Nitrite Test
Materials: SO2 Test Kit
Razor Blade Test Kit
Paragon 1000 FT-IR, Perkin Elmer
EM Quant Sodium Nitrate/Nitrite Test Kit (Lot/Exp, OC191325/Feb 04)
Procedure: The above methods were performed according to standard procedures for each.

FT-IR Spectroscopy: salt of carboxylic acid was detected
Sodium Nitrite Test: The Tyco film does not contain Sodium Nitrite.
Conclusion: The Tyco stretch film offers limited barrier corrosion protection and no contact corrosion protection.
SO2 Grades (Grade 3 and 4 are passing):
Grade 0- Extensive corrosion covering 25% or more of panel surface
Grade 1- Moderate corrosion covering 10-25% of panel surface
Grade 2- Slight corrosion covering 5-10% of panel surface
Grade 3- Very slight corrosion covering 0-5% of panel surface
Grade 4- No visible corrosion on panel surface
