Cocooning Metal Coils Cuts Labor and Damage Claims

Cor-Pak™ VpCI® Cocooning Stretch Film reduces labor as much as 75% in wrapping steel and non-ferrous coils. The proprietary system uses conventional stretch wrapping equipment with Cor-Pak™ VpCI® Cocooning Stretch Film to allow only one (1) operator to wrap a metal coil in what normally can take up to four (4) workers.

The Cocooning System provides complete packaging for coils including the coil's exterior, edges, interior and bore/eye. Initially, the coil is placed on blocker rolls. Then specially fabricated edge and bore/eye protectors are placed on the coil. Using Cor-Pak™ VpCI® Cocooning Stretch Film, the coil is then wrapped using a conventional rotary overhead stretch wrapper. With the fabricated insert in place, wrapping down to the bore/eye protects the coil while allowing access for coil handling. With this process, coils from ten(10) to twenty(20) tons can be wrapped in four(4) minutes or less.

The Cor-Pak™ VpCI® Cocooning Stretch Film offers enhanced protective packaging for coils. Specially extruded for superior flexibility and cling capability, the film readily conforms to curvature of coils. Its tear and puncture resistance has been increased to minimize damage claims. The Cor-Pak™ VpCI® Cocooning Stretch Film is extruded using Cortec's patented VpCI® technology to prevent rust, and corrosion during transport and storage. Cortec's VpCI® provides multi-metal protection virtually eliminating damage claims from staining, oxidation or any type of rust. The new stretch film is recyclable and does away with the special handling and disposal costs of steel strapping, paper, cardboard, and other co-mingled plastic wraps.

The overall cost savings in labor, material, reduced rust and damage claims provide a strong ROI for ferrous and non-ferrous coil producers and service centers. At a savings of $10,000 per month in labor costs alone, a semi-automatic wrapping system including blocker rolls costing as little as $30,000 will pay for itself in (3) months. The system assures a quality coil product that arrives ready for use without increased downstream attention and costs.

NEW PRODUCT RELEASE

VpCI® Gusset Bags Replace Silica Gel and Elbow Grease

For high value-added metal components, products and machinery, Cortec's new VpCITM Gusset Bags are replacing one of the most popular forms of corrosion protection, silica gel and elbow grease. With this new, high density barrier bag the user simply places the product in the bag and seals it with a twist tie, crimp, or heat seal. Metal products placed in a Cortec® VCI Gusset Bag can be perfectly clean. No other corrosion protection is required. Metal is protected against corrosion for up to 24 months in storage, on the shelf, or even export shipment overseas by ship. When ready for use, products are easily removed from the bag and are ready for immediate use. No dusting, cleaning or degreasing is needed.

Cortec VCI Gusset Bags come in a variety of convenient sizes to easily handle items such as bins of small electronic components or small office machines to large shafts, or custom sizes for truck engines and printing presses. The bags translucent barrier allow easy see-through for fast product identification and inspection without opening the bag.

The Cortec bags eliminate the failure of silica gel in preventing rust from over saturation in high humidity and aggressive atmospheres. Cortec® VpCITM technology protects against both humidity as well as corrosive contaminants and vapors that easily penetrate typical poly bags during longer term conditions. The Cortec technology provides complete protection to both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The unique Cortec VpCI®action even sets-up a thin protective film in recessed areas, voids, and other hard-to-reach areas. The bags eliminate the need for any extra labor or material protection such as adding oils or grease, or extracting excess air from the bag. The new bags get rid of the "elbow" grease from extra labor and costs, while virtually eliminating rust claims and product returns.

Unlike silica gel and polyethylene or paper barrier bags which require landfill disposal or special handling, Cortec VCI Gusset Bags are bio-friendly, non-toxic and can be recycled. Their convenient and simple to use form requires no special training of personnel for use. In addition, no special safety equipment is needed when working with Cortec VCI Gusset Bags.

NEW PRODUCT RELEASE

Dissolve Wax and Grease With New Water Dilutable Cleaner

Cortec's new VCI-411 heavy duty cleaner replaces solvent type cleaners for removing grease and wax. Unlike solvent cleaners available on the market today, which are classified as hazardous materials and harmful to human skin, Cortec® VCI-411 is safe to handle. Its biodegradable and non-flammable formulation allows the user to dilute the product with water for heavy, medium, and light duty applications.

The new product is a special D-Limonene-based cleaner/degreaser that effectively dissolves grease, oil, paraffins and waxes without the use of solvents or oils. For applications that need to move away from the more hazardous solvent and oil-based degreasers, the product easily handles extra tough cleaning jobs such as machinery or engines coated with grease and oil build-up, or machined parts coated with waxes or waxy films.

Cortec VCI-411 functions as a universal cleaner. At high concentrations, it will dissolve waxy film and remove adhesives. At low concentrations, the product can be used for washing hands. Because the user can dilute VCI-411 with water to the desired cleaning strength, the user can replace a variety of specialized cleaners with one, multi-purpose product.

For heavy-duty cleaning, the concentrate is diluted with 1 to 5 parts water. After application to gearboxes, engines, or plant machinery, the user allows the VCI-411 do its work. It penetrates through dirt and grime and then breaks the soils free from the surface. The user then proceeds to clean as they normally would. For medium-duty cleaning of production parts and general machinery maintenance, the user dilutes the concentrate with 5 to 10 parts water. For light duty cleaning of walls, floors and office equipment the concentrate is diluted with 10 to 20 parts water.

Having a mild alkaline pH, Cortec VCI-411 can be used on all engineering metals, alloys and most other hard surfaces. The cleaner by be applied using convenient spray bottle, low pressure spray equipment, brush, dip, rag, or mop. The product does not require any special storage or hazardous disposal methods.
