Cortec VCI Paper Wraps and Packages Parts In One Step

With Cortec VCI-144 Paper, users can wrap, protect, and package metal parts all in one step. The paper's proven effectiveness lets users package metal parts in a clean and dry condition eliminating substantial costs in applying wet chemical protection and having to remove it later. The product offers multimetal corrosion protection for ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys such as brass, copper, aluminum, tin, solder, and titanium.

The VCI paper has been specially designed for high-valued added metal parts in the automotive, marine, machinery, aviation and aerospace markets. The VCI paper utilizes Cortec's patented technology to protect multi-metal parts and assemblies from the factory to parts inventory for a duration of two weeks up to two years. The paper keeps parts free of any soil, contamination, rust or oxidation. Parts packaged with the paper can be removed from their box, unwrapped and used immediately without any chemical removal, cleaning, or air blow-off.

The Cortec VCI-144 Paper not only eliminates the labor and costs of cleaning parts that become partially contaminated during inventory, it also eliminates the costs of special waste disposal for conventional paper wraps and chemical clean-up solutions. Unlike these older products and technologies, the Cortec VCI-144 Paper is an environmentally safe, fully recyclable and repulpable product.

Fabricated from high quality, neutral and natural kraft paper, no nitrites, hazardous compounds, or potentially carcinogenic ingredients are used in the paper. Produced with closely packed cellulose fibers, the paper provides a good moisture barrier and resistance to oils. In addition, it is effective against aggressive environments including humidity, SO2, H2S and galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals. The Cortec paper conforms to military specifications of MIL-P-3420E.

Because of the paper's exceptional protective capabilities, users can simplify their manufacturing processes and eliminate chemical lines for applying oils and grease. Processes become simpler for operators since one single paper can be used to protect all types of parts, regardless of type of metal or size of part. Cortec VCI-144 is available in rolls and sheets for packaging by conventional automated systems as well as hand wrapping.

NEW PRODUCT RELEASE

Epoxy Rebar Coating Replaced with Water-based MCI® Polymer

Cortec® Research Chemists have developed an alternative to costly epoxy rebar coating. The new polymer coating is based upon Cortec's patented MCI® and VpCITM technology utilizing non-toxic, water-based chemistries. The environmentally friendly formulation is fully biodegradable, making application in the field easy and environmentally sound. No special safety precautions or clean-up is required. The product can be applied to rebar with conventional spray, brush, rollers or immersion.

Unlike the rebar coating developed twenty (20) years ago with epoxy which hardened, cracked and exposed rebar to corrosion, the Cortec MCI Rebar Coating provides a semi-soft film which is self-healing. It provides unique barrier properties to aggressive outside environments and offers Cortec's Migratory Corrosion InhibitingTMaction to maximize rebar protection in the event of bending, scratches, or other surface imperfections. In aggressive ASTM D1748 testing, the Cortec MCI Rebar Coating provided over 1000 hours of protection, the equivalent of two years exposure to hostile outside environments.

The MCI coating does not need to be removed before rebar is embedded into concrete. While the coating does not affect adhesion of the concrete to the rebar, it substantially boosts the corrosion protection of the metal. This added capability makes it especially effective for bridges, decks, garages, buildings and lanais. These structures are subject to heavy corrosive attack from chlorides in coastal environments and de-icing in winter conditions. Without adequate protection against such harsh conditions, corrosion destroys 75% of the planned life of a concrete structure. Cortec MCI Rebar Coating fights against premature rebuilding, maintenance or demolition.

MCI Rebar Coating is available in standard colors as well as clear coat. It can be applied at the steel mill and service center for up to five (5) years indoor protection. The coating will provide up to two (2) years outdoor protection when applied in the field. If required, the coating can be removed by heavy duty alkaline cleaners.
