New Float Coat Protects Tanks and
Pipelines Against Seawater
Cortec® M-645 is an anti-corrosion
additive specially developed for use in seawater and brine applications
where a more effective and environmentally suitable float coat is
required. Utilizing new patented chemistries, Cortec® M-645
Float Coat is biodegradable, nitrite and amine free, and environmentally
acceptable for use. It is approved by the EPA for discharge in seawater.
M-645 quickly degrades and is harmless to aquatic, marine, birds
or other animal life.
The new and enhanced M-645 Float Coat
can be used in coastal and marine applications for ships, barges,
offshore oil rigs, tanks, pipelines, pumping stations, refineries,
and power plants etc. It effectively stops corrosion in ballast
tanks, "Tank Footings on Jack-up Rigs", void tanks, pipelines
and complex piping systems. The product provides multi-metal protection
and is not affected by salt concentrations. Additionally, it offers
protection against atmospheric corrosion. M-645 can be used in both
saltwater and fresh water environments.
The product is simple to use and works
very much like its name implies, as a float coat. As an example,
a ballast tank would be pumped down and pressured washed. After
removing foreign material from the bottom of the tank, M-645 would
be added. Then as seawater is added to the ballast tank, it floats
the M-645.
This floating process coats every square
inch of the tank's interior including ring stiffeners, girders,
piping and side shell to protect against corrosion. When tanks
are only partially filled, the rest of the tank can be sprayed or
brush coated as needed. This same simple process is used to protect
production platforms, semi-submersible, fixed platform columns,
and even the interior of ship rudders.
Unlike old float coats, the new Cortec®
M-645 is nonflammable and allows equipment protected by M-645 to
be welded. When a tank, pipeline, or column requires repair involving
welding, the M-645 does not present any flammability issues and
does not produce toxic fumes.
