NEW PRODUCT RELEASE
Admixture Grenade Stops Corrosion
In Reinforced Concrete
Cortec® Migrating Corrosion Inhibitors
are now packaged in water-soluble PVA bags known as MCI® Grenades.
The MCI® Grenade provides a very convenient method for
adding pre-measured MCI® to ready mix, mortar, or grout. No
special safety equipment or handling precautions are needed. No
chemical dosages or mixing instructions are required. The operator
simply adds 1 bag for per 1 cubic yard of material.
Utilizing Cortec's patented MCI®
technology, the Grenades allow the user to easily include
corrosion protection for reinforcing steel, galvanized steel and
other metals embedded in concrete induced by carbonation, chloride
and atmospheric attack. The required dosage is not affected by chloride
concentration from de-icing salts, salt water, or other chlorides.
The MCI® migrates to all types of reinforcing metals, rebar
and mesh to form a protective, molecular layer against the deteriorating
effects of rust and corrosion.
MCI® Grenades can added to
concrete at the ready-mix plant, directly to the ready-mix truck
drum or to portable mixers. The PVA bag easily dissolves in water
within approximately two (2) minutes. As the MCI® mixes in
the concrete, the PVA bag dissolves completely. The MCI® admixture
does not affect air entrainment, compressive strength or set time.
For new structures, use of Cortec's MCI® admixture chemistry
doubles the time to initiation of corrosion and reduces the corrosion
rate up to five (5) times over the life the structure.
The product is also offered as an MCI®
Mini Grenade for small batch repair mortars and grouts. One
(1) Mini Grenade is used for å¸ cubic foot of material. For
repair mortars and grouts, the MCI® will migrate through the
densest concrete toward rebar and wire mesh to provide effective
corrosion protection.
As a new generation admixture, MCI®
Grenades are environmentally sound. In addition to being non-toxic
and non-flammable, they do not contain calcium nitrite and are fully
biodegradable. No special safety or disposal precautions are required
making them an ideal admixture for today's environmental concerns
and ecologically sensitive areas.
