CASE HISTORY SPOTLIGHT: Case History #706: Smart Stacking of Four Oil and Gas Rigs
April 12, 2023
A global oil and gas service provider needed to preserve four tender rigs. Normally, they would use cold stacking, but this time, they needed a preservation method that would allow speedy reactivation. Cortec® products and a local Cortec® rep were chosen because of their good track record for such projects. Preservation was as follows:
• VpCI®-609 was used in the mud mixing and pump system.
• VpCI®-645 was used for dry tank internals.
• Electronics/electricals were protected with a combination of VpCI® Emitters and VpCI® Films depending on volume, location, and exposure severity, with ElectriCorr™ VpCI®-238 used to ensure cleanliness.
• Various pieces of other on-deck equipment were protected in VpCI®-126 HP UV Shrink Film.
• VpCI®-368 and CorShield® VpCI®-368 coatings were applied to various unsheltered components where additional preservation was needed.
• VpCI®-369 was used on components such as pistons that required dual lubrication and protection.
• M-531, EcoLine® ELP, and CorrLube™ VpCI® Lithium EP Grease were used in various lubricated systems.
• CorrVerter® Rust Converter Primer was used to passivate rusty surfaces.
• VpCI®-414 and Corwipe® 500 were used for various cleaning tasks.
This system resulted in low-cost storage that would allow a quick return to service whenever the four rigs were needed.
