Cortec® headquarters was notified in February 2020 that it passed all requirements and remains in compliance with the ISO 14001 standard. The recent audit found Cortec® to be in compliance (with no non-conformities) by the external accreditation company American Global Standards, LLC. The ISO Certificate of Registration, which was issued in 2019, is valid for three years. Cortec® was able to ensure the certification was upheld during the surveillance audit year.
Some EMS highlights from the past year include streamlining and internalizing trainings and internal documents, reducing the potential for spills by disposing of expired inventory, and migrating materials previously sent to landfill to a more beneficial Waste-to-Energy plant for disposal.
The EMS committee was able to meet all of their established objectives, which included reducing hazardous waste amounts by 53%, increasing production and sales of products with renewable and biodegradable raw materials, and reducing energy use throughout the facility. The 2020 goals have been established and include continual improvement on the 2019 goals with some added objectives. These include reducing releases of hazardous chemicals to the environment and improving/expanding our recycling program. While these goals will be challenging, Cortec’s EMS committee has high hopes for 2020 and looks to improve its impact on the environment.
