NEW PRODUCT RELEASE

MCI® Polyfilm Stops Rust on Rebar, Mesh, and Studs

A new polyethylene film from Cortec can be used to cover metal parts and components on the construction site to stop rust. Known as MCI® Film, it is unlike any conventional plastic film used for protective covering, wrapping, barriers, or interleaving.

Conventional poly films, wraps, and tarps actually promote rust, especially wherever they touch metal. They trap moisture and water next to the metal, setting up corrosion cells. When poly or tarp is used to cover or tent metal parts, rather than protecting them, they create a humidity chamber much like a sauna, recycling humidity and micro-corrosive vapor thoroughly around all the metal.

Cortec MCI® Film can be used for the same purpose as a wrap and tarp to protect against dirt and weather, however it contains special VpCITM corrosion inhibitors that prevent rust.

Cortec's unique VpCITM Technology is incorporated into the MCI® Film. The vapor phase corrosion inhibitors migrate through the air going wherever water, moisture and humidity travel. The VpCIs form a very thin micro-layer on metal to protect all metal surfaces, even those that are not in contact with the MCI® Film.

The film protects both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It can be used for items such as wire mesh, rods, rebar, tubing, and metal forms. When MCI® Film is used between concrete and metal studs, it stops corrosion that can occur at the contact points, and also protects the rest of the stud, thereby increasing the life of the structure.

MCI® Film passes Federal Std. 101C, Method 4031. In addition to corrosion protection, it provides a good moisture barrier that has high puncture and tear resistance. Made from partially recycled materials, the film is 100% recyclable. It is available in rolls and sheets.
