Testing for GKN Sinter Metals
Background: GKN Sinter Metals in Salem, IN is using a product (RP-99 Compound) which is manufactured by Madison Chemical Co. They have been experiencing corrosion problems, and are looking for an additive or replacement for this product.
Purpose: Find a Cortec additive or replacement for RP-99 Compound.
Method: ASTM 1748 (Humidity Chamber Test)
Materials: RP-99 Compound
EcoLine Cutting Fluid, Cortec
Procedure: Carbon steel panels were dipped in the following solutions:
RP-99 Compound
RP-99 Compound with 5% EcoLine Cutting Fluid
After drying, all panels were placed in the humidity chamber, and the test was performed according to standard procedures.

Conclusion: According to the above test results, EcoLine Cutting Fluid at 5% added corrosion protection to the RP-99 Compound.
EcoLine cutting fluid at 5% is recommended as an additive, or a replacement for the RP-99 Compound.
