Compatibility of VpCI-377 with Gaskets

3 Iso Logos 11 2018 - Cortec Corporation

Background: FAIP would like to utilize VpCI-377 and their gaskets would be exposed to this product during application. FAIP would like to determine if there would be compatibility issues between VpCI-377 and their gaskets.

Purpose: Determine if VpCI-377 is compatible with gaskets.

Materials: VpCI-377

Gaskets provided by FAIP

Methanol

Method: Compatibility Testing

Procedure: The following procedure was performed:

  1. 5 gaskets were chosen and the following samples were created:

  • The samples were inspected, weighed, and this data was recorded.
  • The samples were dipped in varying concentrations of VpCI-377 and then placed in a 40° C oven for 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours the samples were removed from the oven and rinsed with methanol to remove any VpCI-377 from the surface.
  • The washers were reweighed and inspected for any noticeable physical changes.
  • This information was recorded and a report was written.

Results: VpCI-377 did not change the appearance, feel, or have a noticeable affect on the gaskets. The following Δm was found:

* = this part was not totally clean of VpCI-377

Conclusion: The Δm of the washers was negligible, and the physical appearance and properties of the gaskets did not appear to change. This would lead to the conclusion that VpCI-377 did not affect the gaskets and the two components are compatible.
