CASE HISTORY SPOTLIGHT #455: Weizmann Water Tower Preservation

July 03, 2025

Chs 455 - Cortec Corporation

In 2008, the concrete Weizmann water tower in Israel was cracking, spalling, and leaking due to corrosion. To repair the structure, which was more than 80 years old, workers removed unstable concrete, cleaned reinforcing steel, and applied new concrete patches. Glimmer Industrial Consultation supplied MCI®-2020 for application over the whole structure. This was chosen instead of the competitor’s product because it was certified to meet ANSI/ NSF Standard 61 for drinking water system components and offered better corrosion protection and coverage with fewer coats. Workers applied a 2K (two-component) polyurethane paint as a final coat. The repairs were still performing well when updated photographs were taken five years later.
