CASE HISTORY SPOTLIGHT: Case History #788: Preservation of Gas Turbine Engine Core

May 19, 2024

Chs 788 - Cortec Corporation A Gas Turbine Compressor Train-C (GTC) needed two years of preservation. The engine core needed to be isolated first. This was done by fitting VpCI®-126 HP UV Shrink Film to various openings such as the engine air inlet, vents, and exhaust joints. VpCI®-308 Pouches were placed inside the engine bell mouth and the engine core was fogged with VpCI®-337. The variable guide vane was cleaned and preserved before wrapping it in VpCI®-126 HP UV Shrink Film. A key benefit of this method was that the customer was able to preserve the engine core without having to remove it and place it in a nitrogen-pressurized canister.
