Cortec® Welcomes Concrete Restoration Expert to MCI® Team
January 2, 2025
Cortec® is thrilled to introduce James Masterfield as the new MCI® Regional Sales Representative – Central US. James joined the team in October 2024 to fill the crucial role of MCI® support for Midwestern US clients from Chicago to Denver. As a board member for the ICRI Chicago Chapter with extensive historic preservation experience, James comes highly qualified, enthusiastic about Migrating Corrosion Inhibitor™ (MCI®) technology, and eager to build a stronger concrete industry overall.
When James graduated with a double major in management and accounting from the University of Montana, he never expected to end up as a concrete/corrosion expert. However, one thing led to another, and he found himself moving from restaurant management to real estate, to fabric architecture sales. It was while creating trade show booths for automotive and oil and gas industry leaders that he realized how much he enjoyed building things. This discovery and a love for history landed James a job in historic Chicago, managing multi-million dollar restorations on vaulted structures, in addition to overseeing historical preservation on old buildings from Boston to Wyoming (in 2022, he oversaw a façade and roof restoration on the Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park.
As James worked on historic structures built across the decades, he observed a variety of construction methods and uses for concrete. With water and chlorides leaking into many vaulted structures in Chicago, he also encountered plenty of corrosion on steel I-beams encased in concrete. He began using MCI® where specified and came to appreciate its contribution to sustainability by extending service life. His favorite MCI® product is MCI®-2005 NS admixture because of its ability to protect metal in concrete without changing the mix design’s water/cement ratio, unlike so many other concrete additives.
James is passionate about providing excellent customer service and developing strong relationships with MCI® clients in the central US. His knowledge of the ins and outs of construction will make him an invaluable resource when helping engineers and contractors prepare for the unknown and unforeseen circumstances that inevitably arise with building projects. In addition to serving the MCI® market, James is eager to contribute to the overall industry by supporting the regional growth of ICRI, where he wants to encourage deeper research and see more standards developed that will provide continuity between contractors, distributors, and engineers.
James is a great friend to have in the industry, so don’t hesitate to reach out to him with your questions or simply to congratulate him on his move to the Cortec® MCI® team! Together, we look forward to advancing the concrete and construction industry using practical solutions to make structures last longer. Contact James today!
