NISTM: A Great Place to Build CorroLogic® Awareness for ASTs

Aboveground storage tank (AST) builders, consultants, and owners had the privilege of meeting an all-star Cortec® team at the NISTM 26th Annual International AST Conference & Trade Show, April 3rd-5th in Orlando, Florida. Members of Cortec’s delegation spent the three-day conference sharing corrosion solutions, connecting with industry professionals, and getting to know the world of storage tanks even better themselves.
Informing the Industry
Topics of conversation focused on regulatory issues, preservation methods, and common problems tank owners face. Attendees were interested in hearing about Cortec’s corrosion mitigation at all phases of a storage tank’s life cycle—shipping, hydrotesting of new tanks, repair, and everyday operation—and learning about Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI/ VpCI®) as both a complement and backup to traditionally used cathodic protection. Interestingly, although protecting AST bottoms with VCIs has become a proven industry standard, it is clear that more work needs to be done simply informing fabricators and tank owners about this important solution to protect their assets and extend useful service life.
Educational Sessions
Since the conference is closely tied to the oil and gas industry, Eric Uutala (Technical Sales & Product Manager – Asset Preservation and CorroLogic®) gave a presentation on, “Novel Gel Corrosion Inhibiting System for Protection of Cased Pipeline Crossing Internals.” At the end of the talk, several attendees asked questions about our VCI gel casing filler, its application, and its life expectancy. Our team also enhanced their own understanding of the storage tank industry by attending a variety of presentations on Tanks 101, API 653 specification updates, corrosion mapping, tank lining and coating failures, and more.
Keep Asking Questions
The NISTM conference underscored the importance of getting the word out on CorroLogic® solutions for ASTs both locally and globally. We look forward to doing this while simultaneously expanding our own industry knowledge at future NISTM conferences.
