VpCI®-325 Approved as Weldable Rust Inhibitor!

One of the challenges of metals protection is finding a rust preventative that does not need to be cleaned off before welding. The concern is that surface contaminants can affect weld quality, and rust preventative chemicals may give off potentially dangerous fumes. It is therefore exciting to note that Cortec’s VpCI®-325 is approved for use as a weldable rust inhibitor on threaded holes and joint abutments at a name-recognizable equipment manufacturer.

VpCI®-325 Characteristics
VpCI®-325 is a ready-to-use vegetable-oil/solvent-based liquid for general purpose corrosion protection in a wide variety of applications. The product leaves a tenacious oily film that clings to metal surfaces and offers complete water displacement. It also contains corrosion inhibitors for protection against rust in the presence of high relative humidity, chlorides, H2S, and sulfur compounds. VpCI®-325 can be used to protect ferrous metals, galvanized steel, aluminum, brass, copper, babbitt, zinc, cadmium, and silver.
Weldability Qualities
As part of the manufacturer’s approval process, VpCI®-325 underwent testing for fume generation, weld quality, and corrosion protection. Results were positive, and it was determined that VpCI®-325 could be used on threaded holes and joint abutments without requiring removal. These characteristics are important factors for those involved in the protection of sheet metal, wire, pipe, flanges, and other fabricated parts that need to undergo welding. By eliminating the product removal step, the weldable rust preventative provides the necessary corrosion protection and saves the welder the time and hassle of cleaning.
