Bionetix® Launches New Enzyme Line: Focuses on Laundry, Textile, Paper, Food Industries!

May 15, 2024

Bionetix® International is pleased to introduce ECL3000, the first in its new line of enzyme concentrates for manufacturers and formulators. ECL3000 targets cellulose, a complex carbohydrate found in plant cell walls and many items used every day—food, clothing, and paper, to name a few. With ECL3000, manufacturers in a variety of industries can improve processes and create better products while lowering their environmental impact.

Ecl3000

A Powerful Enzyme for Industry

ECL3000 is a high efficiency cellulase enzyme produced by non-pathogenic fungi. This high purity enzyme exhibits robust performance and is involved in the breakdown of cellulose into smaller sugars such as glucose. Such action makes it beneficial for a wide range of industries including textile, paper, biofuel, and animal feed processing. Several examples of possible uses for ECL3000 are as follows.

Textiles and Laundry

Both cotton and wool textile production can benefit from ECL3000, reducing the overall use of chemicals for a better wastewater BOD/COD profile. Cellulase can be used for bio-stoning, a gentler form of denim finishing that reduces the number of pumice stones needed to fade blue jeans. It may diminish the need for sulfuric acid to remove impurities from wool (bio-carbonization) and can be used to smooth the surface of fabrics (bio-polishing). In a similar function, ECL3000 can be added to laundry detergent to gently counteract pilling.

Paper Production and Recycling

Another clear target for ECL3000 is the paper industry, where cellulose is the main component of pulp derived from trees. ECL3000 can be used to encourage greater efficiency and higher production in virgin paper-making processes or to deliberately produce softer textures. On the flip-side, environmentally responsible recycling may take advantage of ECL3000 to help with ink removal and bio-bleaching of printed papers and cardboard.

Waste Management and Biofuel Production

With today’s emphasis on increasing renewable sources of energy, waste management and biofuel production are two related industries that also warrant a closer look at enzyme use. Bio-catalysts such as ECL3000 are needed to speed up the decomposition process for organics and plant-based waste. Furthermore, with the option of converting biomass to biogas, ECL3000 can be used to assist the hydrolysis of cellulose in anaerobic digesters to enhance biogas production. Another biofuel potential is the conversion of environmentally-abundant cellulosic material to simple sugars that can be fermented into ethanol.

Food Processing

Adding cellulase to raw materials for animal feeds is believed to increase their overall nutritional benefit to livestock. ECL3000 may also help with digestion,  encouraging a healthier livestock appetite and consequently better production. On the human side, cellulase is widely used in food and juice processing to enhance flavors, improve extraction, and tenderize fruits, giving ECL3000 a broad scope of potential use in the food and beverage industry.

Just the Beginning

ECL3000 is just the beginning of Bionetix® International’s deployment of enzymes to enhance industrial processes. Look for other powerful enzymes to follow and fulfill important functions that reduce harsh chemical consumption and make better use of limited resources. In the meantime, contact Bionetix® to take advantage of ECL3000 in your industry!
