Green, Compostable, Shrink Wrapping Film Receives Compostability Certificate from TÜV Austria!

Cortec® Corporation is very excited to receive industrial compostability certification for its “green” EcoShrink™ Compostable Film. EcoShrink™ is a certified industrially compostable*, specialty shrink wrapping film designed to make the “circular economy” a reality while meeting common packaging needs. EcoShrink™ is designed for use in standard heat-shrinking applications. Cortec® received the ‘OK compost INDUSTRIAL’ certificate from TÜV Austria. This certifies that EcoShrink™ conforms to the criteria for industrial compostability under EN 13432 (European equivalent of ASTM D6400). For the past decade the world has been searching for environmentally safer ways to approach packaging due to huge problem of plastic pollution. Cortec® Corporation has been working tirelessly to introduce viable packaging options with “circular economy” in mind. This means taking into account product’s whole life cycle—from raw material sourcing to disposal. The company has intensified efforts to develop a variety of practical alternatives to traditional plastic films and bags. EcoShrink™ Film is a commercially compostable alternative to common plastic shrink wraps for use in industrial packaging applications.
EcoShrink™ takes whole shrink wrap product life cycle into account from the beginning to the end. The film is sourced from certified commercially compostable resins and contains 45% biopolymers. After use, it can be disposed of in a composting environment to reduce the amount of plastic packaging that normally ends up in a landfill.* EcoShrink™ is shelf and curb stable and will retain its integrity until disposed of properly.

EcoShrink has many practical characteristics in addition to being environmentally safe. Film is specially designed for standard heat-shrinking applications. Cortec’s customers can shrink wrap their small or large components as normal to conform to the shape of the object. EcoShrink™ is an excellent way to keep dust, dirt, and moisture off warehouse stock while keeping components bundled into a streamlined package. Shrink wrapping can be done with a wide variety of standard shrink tools. Simply measure the size of the unit, determine how much film is needed to wrap around it with enough for overlap, then shrink wrap as usual. EcoShrink™ is available in 2 or 4 mil (50 or 100 µm) thicknesses and as single wound or centerfold sheeting in widths of 18” (45.72 cm) or 36” (91.44 cm).
Unfortunately, much of the planet is swimming in discarded plastic, which is harming animal and human health. Plastic pollution has become one of the largest environmental issues, as production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them. Reducing plastic waste is complex process with many steps involved. This compostable shrink wrapping film enables utilizing renewable materials and ultimately keeping plastics out of the landfill by designing them for an industrial composting waste stream.
