There are many ways to do corrosion protection, and Cortec® is pleased to provide a well-rounded portfolio of options to help users select the best overall corrosion solution for the job. While VCI (vapor corrosion inhibitor) technology plays a key role for protecting metals in enclosed void spaces where it would be difficult to apply a coating, VpCI® coatings play a key role in protecting metal surfaces exposed to the open air. These coatings offer several advantages in the field of corrosion protection.
First, Cortec® coatings technology relies on “NANO” VpCI® inhibitors that have a low environmental impact. These inhibitors form a tight-bonding microscopic molecular layer on metal surfaces to create a variety of water-based and solvent-based coatings that compete with many paints and zinc-rich primers.
Second, Cortec’s portfolio of coatings includes a variety of water-based primers and DTM coatings (in addition to solvent-based) for those who want to be mindful of worker and environmental safety. These coatings tend to have low VOC and offer a welcome replacement for workers who do not want to deal with the smells or cleanup of traditional solvent-based coatings.
Third, Cortec® offers greater flexibility for the user by offering a variety of permanent and removable coatings. The latter are an especially practical option for manufacturers or industries who need temporary corrosion protection during transit or equipment layup. The coatings are typically easy to remove and sometimes may not need to be removed at all. Permanent coatings can often be applied clear over painted surfaces or tinted to many custom or standard RAL colors to minimize change in surface appearance.
