This Peelable Protective Coating Can Be Painted Onto Metal and Glass!
August 20, 2024
Have you ever wished you could just spray a sheet of protective plastic right over a metal or glass surface instead of having to perfectly align and smooth a plastic cling film over it by hand? VpCI®-372 lets you do that with a water-based acrylic paint that inhibits corrosion and can be easily thrown in the trash after removal.
Paint On, Peel Off
VpCI®-372 looks like paint and smells like paint when you pour it out of the drum. It can be sprayed directly over non-porous surfaces to get a smooth coat of clear or tinted paint at a thickness of 2.0-10.0 mils (50- 250 μm) dry film thickness (the thicker the coat, the better the protection and ease of removal). Because of the chemistry used, VpCI®-372 adheres tightly to the surface when dry until someone “breaks the seal” to get under the coating and start peeling it up. The resulting material looks and feels like a sheet of plastic when it is peeled off and can be disposed as solid waste.
Protect Metal Panels, Windows, and More!
There are many possible uses for this hybrid coating-turned-plastic-film. Manufacturers of steel sheeting can apply VpCI®-372 right over metal panels to keep it shiny and corrosion-free during shipping. Maintenance crews and homeowners can spray boats or other metal equipment with a coat of VpCI®-372 before shoving the assets back in the garage or warehouse for storage. Contractors can spray new windows, doors, and frames that have already been installed at a jobsite to protect them from the dust, dirt, and debris flying around as construction continues.
Not Magic, Just Chemistry
VpCI®-372 is not for every protective coating application, but it does provide a hybrid option for situations where a paint-on, peel-off protective film is needed. It’s not magic, just chemistry.
