Automotive Tool And Die Preservation 1 - Cortec Corporation

A mold and die manufacturer needed a way to protect a 40,000 pound (18,144 kg) two-cavity automotive interior P20 mold from corrosion during five to six weeks of overseas shipment. The mold cavity, core, and steel surfaces were sprayed with EcoAir® Tool & Die Rust Preventative. A VpCI®-309 Pouch was also placed inside the mold as an extra source of Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors to protect hard-to-reach internal surfaces. The mold was reassembled, locked, and shrink-wrapped in MilCorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. It successfully arrived at its overseas destination without any corrosion problems. The customer liked how easy it was to remove MilCorr® and not worry about cleaning the rust preventative off the mold. The cost of protection was much less than traditional greases and oils, and the customer requested the same preservation system on all molds going forward.
