Get Ready to Clean and Protect Vehicle Electricals

January 8, 2021

Corrosion on vehicle electronics and electricals can be a major problem given their widespread use in today’s trucks and cars. Electrical connections are among the most susceptible—even more so in environments that experience harsh winters where deicing salts are used. Corrosion can affect a vehicle’s battery, wiring system, or electronic sensors even to the point of failure or replacement. It is therefore part of a good fleet maintenance plan to adequately inspect, clean, and protect electricals against corrosion.

Cortec’s electronic/electrical cleaners are a great way to do so and are excellent materials to have on hand for a routine maintenance check. Corwipe® 500 is a convenient towelette that can be used to remove light rust, grease, oil, and dust off electronics, PCBs, and terminal blocks. It can also be used to wipe screens, monitors, and speakers inside the automobile. Corwipe® 500 is good for use on metal parts and electronics because it not only cleans but also leaves behind an antistatic and thin VpCI® film for protection against triboelectric charge and flash rust.

For heavier-duty electronics cleaning and protection tasks, ElectriCorr® VpCI®-238 and ElectriCorr® VpCI®-239 fulfill much the same purpose, each with moisture-displacing and penetrating film characteristics, allowing them to be used as a cleaning agent. Sprayed on and left to dry, they can also be applied as a protective film for ongoing corrosion inhibition (ElectriCorr® VpCI®-239 recommended for the severest conditions) on electrical contacts*, wires, and PCBs!
