A Simple Way to ‘Concentrate’ on Grease Trap Maintenance
October 19, 2022
FOG (fat, oil, and grease) buildup is a common problem at restaurants and food processing facilities. These fatty and greasy wastes are often collected in grease traps to prevent FOG overload in the wastewater discharge. However, grease traps are often overloaded themselves, releasing bad odors, requiring pumping, and sometimes overflowing to the sewer system for high surcharges, nonetheless. The good news is that, since microorganisms love to “eat” FOG, a little biological treatment can go a long way toward avoiding these problems!
Bionetix® International offers several forms of biological grease trap treatment including GTC 3X™. This concentrated liquid product is formulated with naturally occurring, highly adaptable, high-performing microorganisms that flourish in grease traps. The microorganisms of GTC 3X™ were selected for their ability to degrade fats, oils, and greases and are supplemented with specialty additives that loosen and liquefy heavy grease deposits to speed up degradation. Biological FOG digestion with GTC 3X™ has a wealth of benefits:
• Reducing scum and grease buildup in grease traps
• Reducing odors
• Preventing emergency blockages
• Improving pipe drainage
• Reducing BOD
GTC 3X™ can be applied to the grease trap using an automatic metering pump set to inject 60 L of diluted product over a specific time period based on grease trap size. This treatment has been implemented very effectively in ready-to-eat food supermarkets throughout Chile, reducing grease trap pumping frequency simply by adding a regular dose of biologicals to eat up the waste. Better still, the benefits of GTC 3X™ extend beyond the grease trap to drains, holding tanks, sewers, and wastewater treatment plants, improving wastewater treatment efficiency all the way down the line.
