NEWS ALERT: Cortec® Friends & Family Gather for First In-Person AMPP Conference

May 5, 2022

It was good to have our team back in person at the biggest annual corrosion conference early this March. The AMPP Annual Conference + Expo 2022, March 6th-10th in San Antonio, TX, also marked the first in-person AMPP expo after the merging of NACE and SPCC into one organization. Cliff Cracauer (EVP—Sales & Marketing, who attended the event along with Jessi Meyer [VP of Technical and Product Sales], Pavlo Solntsev [Laboratory Manager], Spencer Taylor [VP Sales, Southern], and Vesna and Ivan Rogan [CorteCros®]) commented that overall attendance was good compared to other conventions he’s seen since COVID started—a positive sign that things are starting to bounce back.

It was great to reconnect with many Cortec® Friends and Family from Cortec® Global Services, Wiki Valves, MESA, and other companies who joined our team to make a party of 17 for a special dinner in the library room of the historic St. Anthony hotel. This ongoing Cortec® tradition from many years at NACE was marked by fabulous food and interesting stories from the past, including an account from Tim Whited (MESA) of his first visit to the Middle East to work on aboveground storage tanks (ASTs).

Unfortunately, insurmountable obstacles prevented Khalil Abed (Cortec® Middle East) and Dr. Behzad Bavarian (California State University, Northridge)
from joining us and presenting their papers at the AMPP technical symposium. However, Khalil was still able to give a recorded presentation, which several of
our team attended along with other relevant technical sessions to build their knowledge base and generate ideas for the future.

Cortec® was also well-represented in technical committees as Jessi, Spencer, and Pavlo attended VCI committee meetings. Pavlo is becoming more involved in the proceedings of NACE VIA test committee SC13 as he takes over this role for Cliff who has participated for 16 years. Longtime Cortec® associate Tim Whited also invested a lot of time in the conference as the Document Project Manager for SP21474: Standard for External Corrosion Control of On-Grade Carbon Steel Storage Tank Bottoms. This standard has been in development since 2016 and is nearing completion with hopes for publication in late summer. It will be exciting to see the results of this and other short- and long-term efforts as they come to fruition!
