Cortec® Sees High Quality Traffic at ESD Symposium
October 25, 2024
It was Cortec’s third year to display dual ESD/anticorrosion packaging solutions at the Annual EOS/ESD Symposium, September 15th-19th in Reno, Nevada. As usual, traffic was not high volume-but it was high quality, with attendees ranging from electronic manufacturers to engineers who work with mission critical electronic connectors in the aerospace industry.
While everyone was primarily interested in ESD solutions, many continue to be pleasantly surprised to learn about Cortec’s packaging options for dual ESD + corrosion protection, a concept that is still relatively new to the electronics industry but makes sense when these professionals think of metal oxidation risks.
One interesting conversation with an electronics manufacturer focused on the ability of Cortec’s permanent ESD/VpCI® bags to provide long-term protection against damage and oxidation even in the presence of moisture- replacing desiccant, which has a moisture capacity issue. Another interesting topic under discussion and worthy of further exploration was the question of whether this type of packaging might be able to reduce the need for inprocess flux (used for soldering) in addition to protecting solder from oxidation.
Since this was the fourth time for Mike Gabor (VP of Sales, Eastern North America) to attend the symposium, he stayed close to the Cortec® booth and let Jay Zhang (Director of Business Development) enjoy some technical presentations as a first-time attendee. Jay has a strong background in the electronics industry but found the sessions to be a good way to build his ESD vocabulary and conceptualization even further.
Back at the booth, Mike and Jay noticed that permanent ESD products (e.g., EcoSonic® VpCI®-125 HP Permanent ESD Film & Bags) continue to be preferred over “pink poly” because of their longer service life. They also saw an interest in the possibility of turning EcoSonic® ESD Paper (a.k.a., Pink Paper™) into envelopes. For those looking for ESD/VpCI® options at the static shielding level, Jay and Mike were able to refer attendees to the DESCO booth, which was promoting ESD/VpCI® shielding bags lined with Cortec’s permanent ESD/ VpCI® film.
Cortec® is proud to be on the cutting edge of a technology with many possibilities in the electronics industry. We look forward to continuing to raise awareness of existing options while exploring new variations on the same technology!
