Sometimes manufacturers and distributors need a corrosion solution quickly, but they do not have enough time to check the compatibility of the rust preventative oils they intend to use. When this happens, an even better answer may be waiting if they take their quandary to Cortec®.
Rust Preventative Compatibility for Tanks
Greasy oils were once the go-to for corrosion protection. Even today, some manufacturers want to coat the inside of their tanks or gearboxes with a rust preventative oil. While this is not wrong, it can cause compatibility issues with the gearbox’s operational oil. The end user must either clean the rust preventative out of the tank before filling it or check the compatibility of the rust preventative with the tank’s contents if cleaning is undesirable. If there is no time for either, it is time to get creative!
A Dry Alternative for Void Spaces
Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors in many formats help Cortec® adapt quite easily to these situations. For example, if the vessel contains multi-metals and is naturally enclosed, manufacturers can hang a VpCI®-308 Pouch inside. This breathable package releases Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors, which form a protective molecular layer that does not have to be cleaned off later. Another option is to insert BioPad®, a USDA Certified Biobased Product that also emits Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors. If the tank is open, manufacturers can trap the corrosion inhibiting vapors inside the vessel and protect the outside at the same time by wrapping the entire asset in VpCI®-126 HP UV Shrink Film. When the tank reaches its destination and needs to be filled, all that has to be done is remove the VpCI® Film and emitting material—no extra cleaning required!
