Time to Compare VCI Protection vs. CP at Aboveground Storage Tank Conference

October 13, 2021

Our longtime friend Tim Whited from MESA Products presented a great “Comparison of VCI and CP Performance Using Floor Scan Data” on September 1st at the NISTM (National Institute for Storage Tank Management) conference. This was the 23rd Annual Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Conference & Trade Show, taking place this year in Orlando, Florida. As an AST protection expert, Tim was a great person to speak on the topic as part of the AMPP split session track for the day.

Tim’s presentation compared data from tanks protected with CP (cathodic protection) only and those protected only with VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors, i.e., VpCI®). He found that “VCI was equally effective, and in some instances, more effective than cathodic protection,” thus qualifying it as a viable corrosion solution for protection of AST floors!
