Protect Against Corrosion During Wet Abrasive Blasting and More!
March 30, 2021
Water-blasting can be a great way to remove rust, paint, and grime on metal surfaces. Unfortunately, it is also an easy way to introduce corrosion by exposing freshly polished metal surfaces to moisture and oxygen. That is where Cortec’s VpCI®-611 water treatment comes in handy.
VpCI®-611 is a water-based rust preventative concentrate that can be added directly to wet blasting media for corrosion protection of uncoated metal surfaces. In many cases, VpCI®-611 treated water can be left to dry and does not need to be rinsed off prior to painting, coating, or welding. A VpCI®-611 rinse may also be applied for protection of metal surfaces that have just been sandblasted. In addition to surface prep on industrial equipment or structural steel, VpCI®-611 can be used for protection of smaller metal components and panels that need to be wet blasted, then packaged for shipment or storage.
Beyond water blasting, the versatility of VpCI®-611 extends to use as a corrosion inhibitor treatment in hydrotesting and ballasting water. It protects carbon steel, stainless steel, mild steel, aluminum, and other ferrous metals. It is also suitable for protection in saltwater applications.
