CASE HISTORY SPOTLIGHT: Case History #501: Preservation of Cooling Plant Chillers
April 09, 2025
When the chillers for a district cooling project arrived on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi much earlier than plant commissioning, preservation was imperative. Standard practice was to cover the chiller units with tarpaulins, but these had to be replaced every two months due to harsh coastal conditions. For better results, the utility contractor adopted a two-year preservation solution that involved placing VpCI®-309 Pouches in water headers and VpCI®-111 Emitters in control panels before wrapping the entire unit in MilCorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. This method offered long-term protection against corrosion in the presence of extreme heat, UV, wind, and chlorides while minimizing the inspection, costs, and replacements associated with traditional methods.
