CASE HISTORY SPOTLIGHT: Case History #479: Outdoor Boiler Tube Preservation

September 8, 2022

Two spare boiler tube bundles needed preservation against corrosion in harsh outdoor storage conditions while remaining ready for use at any time. To prep the bundles for storage, loose rust and debris were blown off with pressurized air. Additional rust was removed from the tube externals and drum side internals and externals using VpCI®-423 rust removal gel, followed by cleaning with a dilution of VpCI®-415. A protective layer of VpCI®-377 rust preventative was sprayed on the internal and external surfaces of the tubes and drum, and VpCI®-377 rust inhibitor was also fogged into tube internals and capped. After drying, the final step was to wrap the bundles in MilCorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. The customer was both satisfied with the job and surprised by the efficiency of the Cortec® rust removal and preservation system for this serious challenge.
