Celebrating 50 Years in the Industry at AMPP!

March 28, 2024

The March 3rd-7th AMPP conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, was extra special this year as Cortec® CEO Boris Miksic, FNACE, celebrated half a century of membership in the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) turned AMPP! He was recognized for this milestone during AMPP Honoree Night, hosted at the National World War II Museum, a fabulous setting complete with a jazz band to set the Louisiana mood and historic aircraft to soar on display overhead. When called up to receive his award, Boris expressed his usual visionary attitude by asking to apply for 50 more years of membership!

Back at the conference, Cortec® R&D, technical services, and technical associates from the University of Zagreb and California State University, Northridge, made significant contributions to AMPP symposia with seven different papers on topics as varied as flash rust and surface prep, float coats, compostable VCI film, CUI prevention, gearbox corrosion, and more! Cortec® employees also had the chance to learn from others as they attended sessions, viewed student posters, and chatted with current and potential customers. Pipelines and AST preservation were among the major topics of discussion, and Cortec® looks forward to following up with some of these contacts during special training sessions in the near future.

As always, another highlight of the week was the annual dinner hosted by Boris and Ines Miksic for Cortec® employees and a few special guests. This year, the Cortec® family was back at historic Antoine’s, New Orleans’s oldest restaurant, a venue that has served dignitaries, celebrities, and locals for 160 years. This classic setting was an excellent place to connect with one another and celebrate Boris’s own history with “Cheers!” said in the many different languages represented-including English, Croatian, Chinese, Dutch, German, Farsi, Finnish, and Ukrainian! Part of the group also had time to tour local sites led by our own New Orleanian, Regional Sales Manager Judy Wolf. Along the way, they got a taste of traditional New Orleans food, including shrimp po-boys, beignets, and fried catfish and eggplant parmesan!

It was great to spend time in this unique setting while celebrating an important milestone for the founder of Cortec®. Special thanks to those of you who stopped by to reconnect and congratulate Boris on 50 years of membership. We look forward to continued collaboration in the future as we head into another half century of fighting corrosion together!
